Ivy Lu and Lexy Ramler were named Specialist and Gymnast of the Week respectively by the Big Ten after helping the Gophers sweep Hamline, Gustavus and Winona State in the annual Best of Minnesota quad meet this past Saturday at Maturi Pavilion.
Ivy Lu has been awarded Specialist of the Week in response to her taking first place on the uneven bars after sticking her double layout dismount and earning her team a 9.925 to close out the Minnesota bars rotation. Her 9.925 tied for the highest-scoring routine of the meet and helped the Gophers to a team score of 49.125 (their best rotation of the meet) for the event.
During the 2018 season, Lu won the B1G Specialist of the Week honor three times, most notably after scoring a perfect 10.000 on beam and setting a Minnesota program record on the apparatus.
Lexy Ramler earns her Gymnast of the Week honor after winning the all-around competition with a total score of 39.475. Her beam routine earned a 9.925, which tied Lu's uneven bars routine for the highest-scoring routine of the meet. Ramler also won both the beam and floor events in addition to her all-around title. She never placed below the top three in any event on Saturday, taking third on vault and second on the uneven bars.
As a freshman in 2018 Ramler earned five B1G Freshman of the Week plaudits and was named B1G Gymnast of the Week four times.
The Gophers return to the competition floor this Saturday, Jan. 19 as they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes in the team's first conference dual meet of the 2019 season.
