McCutcheon Volleyball Camps Registration Now Open

Gopher Volleyball head coach Hugh McCutcheon will hold his annual volleyball camps, July 12-21, at the University of Minnesota. Both overnight and day camps are available as part of the 2019 camp lineup. Be sure to register early as all camps sold out in 2018!

The goal of the McCutcheon Volleyball Camps is to make athletes and teams better at playing the game. To achieve this, the camp program is based in a teaching philosophy where instructors explain and demonstrate, give continuous feedback, and provide repetition until the athlete achieves the desired level of execution.

This summer McCutcheon Volleyball will be offering six camps for athletes of all ages and levels. The first camp offered is College Prep Camp, July 12-15. This camp is designed for experienced athletes that aspire to play college volleyball. Coach McCutcheon believes that the best players are generalized specialists, or players that are proficient in all skills, but excel in one or two skills. College Prep Camp will teach all skills and will allow athletes to play with and against some of the best players in the country. Campers have the choice of commuting or spending the night in Minnesota on-campus housing.

Athletes looking to focus on the techniques used for their primary position may want to consider the 2 Day Positional Camp, July 16-17. At this camp, athletes select the position they want to focus on, and they receive skill instruction and feedback to become the best at their position. The specific position camps offered are: Setter Camp, Outside Hitter/Opposite Camp, Middle Hitter/Blocker Camp, Libero/Defensive Specialist Camp.

Single day skill camps will be offered on July 18 and July 19. These camps run 9:00am-3:30pm and are designed to allow athletes to learn or "tune up" one skill. The skills offered are: Attack/Block, Dig/Set, and Serve/Pass.

Younger players looking for an introduction to the sport should consider attending Volley School July 16-19. Volley School is an entry level camp designed to teach the core volleyball skills (serving, passing, setting, hitting). Campers will learn one to two skills per day and will play volleyball specific games at the end of each session. Volley School is a fun and engaging way for boys and girls ages 6-11 to learn the game!

The Get Set Team Camp and Coaches Clinic, hosted July 20-21, is geared towards Varsity and Junior Varsity Teams that want to train and compete prior to the high school season. Teams will receive individual skill instruction, opportunities to play wash drills against other schools, and a guarantee of four competitive matches. In 2018 30 teams participated from all across the country!

McCutcheon Volleyball Camps will also offer a 2 Day Boys Camp, July 18-19.  This day camp is designed for boys ages 12-19 looking to learn the fundamental skills of the sport through a variety of skill acquisition drills and competitive team drills. Registration will be open soon for this camp. Check back to the website for further information.

Last year over 1,000 campers traveled to the University of Minnesota to attend McCutcheon Volleyball Camps. Attending camp is a great way to learn from the best and to see everything that the University of Minnesota has to offer.
