After an elite 2018 season, Tyler Johnson could leave Minnesota next year as the most decorated receiver in school history.

Minnesota's Tyler Johnson established himself as one of the best receivers in the school history this year, as he became an unstoppable force in conference play and a household name across the nation.

The junior from Minneapolis had one of the most prolific seasons in school history and shattered receiving records in the process. Johnson ended the 2018 season with single-season school records in receiving yards (1,169) and receiving touchdowns (12). His 78 catches rank second all-time in school history behind Gopher legend Eric Decker, who snagged 84 balls in 2008.

Johnson, who became the first Minnesota receiver to be named First Team All-Big Ten since 2009, tied a school record with six 100-yard games and became the first Gopher ever to record four straight 100-yard games in Big Ten play.

He finished tied for first in the Big Ten in receiving touchdowns (12), second in yards (1,169) and third in receptions (78). Nationally (prior to Monday's championship game), Johnson ranks tied for eighth in touchdowns, 17th in yards and 21st in receptions.

Johnson set career highs at Nebraska this season when he grabbed 11 catches (tied for third most in a game in school history) for a career high 184 receiving yards (seventh most in a game in school history).

He also tied his career high with three touchdowns receptions in one game when he accomplished this feat against Miami. In doing so, he became the second Gopher ever (joining Da'Jon McKnight) to have two games with three receiving touchdowns. Johnson also caught three touchdowns against Michigan State in 2017.

After the 2017 season, Johnson (35 catches, 677 yards and 7 TDs in 2017) received the athletic department's Golden Goldy as the Male Breakthrough Athlete of the Year. This year, he was honored with the football team's Bronko Nagurski Award, which is given to the team's most valuable player and will surely be one of the favorites for the Golden Goldy presented to the school's Male Athlete of the Year in April.

Johnson will enter the 2019 season with a chance to edit the record book again. He ranks seventh all-time in career receiving yards with 1,987. Decker is the school record holder with 3,119 career yards and is the only Gopher ever to eclipse 3,000 yards. Johnson will need 1,133 yards next season to break Decker's record and will need 1,013 yards to join him in Club 3,000.

Johnson ranks tenth in school history with 127 catches and again will be chasing Decker who is the program standard with 227 career receptions. Decker's 84 catches in 2008 is the school record, so Johnson will need a monster season – 100 catches – to tie Decker's record.

Johnson ranks fourth in school history with 20 receiving touchdowns. Ron Johnson (no relation) is first with 31 and is followed by Ernie Wheelwright (26) and Decker (24).

If Johnson were to duplicate his 2018 season (78 catches, 1,169 yards and 12 touchdowns) in 2019, he would leave Minnesota as he program holder in receiving yards (3,156) and touchdowns (32) and he would rank second all-time in catches (205).

Johnson will also enter 2019 having caught a pass in 23 straight games, which is tied for eighth in school history. Ron Johnson's record of 46 straight games is not reachable, but Tyler Johnson could finish second all-time (Decker and Tutu Atwell hold down second place with a catch in 34 straight games).

Johnson who has played in 36 career games (he missed the final two games of the 2017 season with an injury) has nine 100-yard career games on his resume. The school record is 11 and is held by Decker and Atwell.
