Senior setter Samantha Seliger-Swenson has been named one of four volleyball finalists for the Honda Sport Award. This award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 43 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies "the best of the best in collegiate athletics".  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2019 Honda Cup which will be presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 24, 2019, in downtown Los, Angeles.

The nominees were chosen by a panel of coaches representing the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The Honda Sport award winner for volleyball will be announced next week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.

Seliger-Swenson, hailing from Minnetonka, Minn., capped off her Gopher career with her fourth AVCA All-America honor. She became the first-ever Gopher to become an four-time All-American, as Paula Gentil was a three-time All-American and an honorable mention. Seliger-Swenson finished her Gopher career with 5,674 assists. That mark ranked fourth on Minnesota's career list and the most assists since rally scoring began in 2008. The Big Ten Player of the Year guided her team to a .298 hitting clip on the season, Seliger-Swenson distributed the ball to five hitters to over 240 kills and over 480 attempts. Individually, Seliger-Swenson has 1,203 assists this season (averaging 12.58 per set) and has 263 digs, a team-best 38 aces and 41 blocks. She was also named the Big Ten Setter of the Week seven times this season and led Minnesota to a 19-1 league record and conference championship. During her Gopher tenure, Seliger-Swenson was a four-time AVCA All-American, the Big Ten Player of the Year (2018), a two-time Big Ten Co- or Setter of the Year (2018, 2016) and Big Ten Freshman of the Year (2015).
