Football season ticket holders flocked to TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday to hold and take photos with Paul Bunyan's Axe

It was quite a scene in the Minnesota football locker room on Saturday.

Nearly 2,000 passionate fans made their way to TCF Bank Stadium to take a photo with Paul Bunyan's Axe, which is back on campus for the first time since 2003. Minnesota drubbed Wisconsin 37-15 on Nov. 24, 2018, to win the coveted trophy. The win was also Minnesota's first victory at Camp Randall since 1994.

After the bowl-clinching victory, coach P.J. Fleck famously told the fans who met the team at Athletes Village around midnight that, "Everybody gets to touch the Axe!"

On Saturday, Fleck and the Gophers continued to make good on the declaration. The event was another opportunity for fans – this time season ticket holders – to take pictures with one of the most prominent and photogenic trophies in all of sports.

Fans have also had this opportunity at numerous Gopher sporting events, on national signing day, on campus and at the annual Holidazzle celebration.

There will be two more exclusive events for season ticket holders to see the Axe (season ticket holders will be contacted via email) and there will certainly be more opportunities for the public to see the Axe as well.
