MINNEAPOLIS -- Gophers Patty O'Brien, Temi Ogunrinde, Kiley Sabin, and Rachel Schow reflect on what it means to be chosen as the women's track & field team's captains for the 2019 season.

Gopher Sports: What does it mean to you that you were selected as a team captain this season?

O'Brien: I'm very excited and honored to be a captain for this team. These girls are dedicated, hard-working athletes, and to be able to lead them is a great privilege. I'm excited for the work ahead of us and can't wait to start competing and see what we can do!

Ogunrinde: Being a captain on this team has always been an honor and a joy -- working alongside such amazing women. It's even more exciting to lead and work with amazing men, too, now that our teams are one program. I'm excited for what this year will bring!

Sabin: I am so excited to be chosen as a team captain for this season. I'm honored that my teammates see me as leader and someone they can trust. These last four years have flown by, and I'm just most excited to get out on the track and compete with my team. These girls are so special to me, and I know we're going to do some big things this year.

Schow: I have had the privilege to learn from the best leaders throughout my time at Minnesota, and this year I am honored to be chosen as a captain. This team has been my family over the past four years. These women are some of the most dedicated and well-rounded individuals on campus, and it is exciting to expand our family to work alongside the men. The men's team brings a lot of energy and commitment to practice, and I am excited to carry that through the competition season!

This Friday and Saturday, Minnesota is set to compete at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational hosted by the Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa, while members of the team also compete locally at the UST Invite on Friday.
