Trio of Gophers Earn Big Ten Awards

Three Gophers were honored by the Big Ten in the annual conference awards, the conference announced Thusrday. Senior midfielder Nikki Albrecht earned a spot on the Third Team All-Big Ten, midfielder Katie Duong was named to the All-Freshman Team, and senior defender Marisa Windingstad garnered the conference's Sportsmanship Award.
Albrecht now finishes her career with the honor after starting her Gophers run with a spot on the 2016 All-Freshman team. The Wisconsin native scored the final goal of career against Nebraska to tie up the match and earn the Gophers a draw.
Last year both April Bockin and Molly Fiedler earned spots on the All-Big Ten team.
For Duong, it's her second conference award in a week. The U20 Women's National Team call-up was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday after scoring a game-winner on the road against Northwestern. After leading the Gophers in total shots and shots on goal across the entire season, it's just the start for Duong.
The last member of the All-Freshman team was Patricia Ward last season. The Gophers have now had student-athletes on the All-Freshman team in three of the last four seasons.
Windingstad rounded out the awards with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Windingstad was one of the team's co-captains and was the only field player to play every minute of every game this season.
Last year's winner of the award was Emily Peterson.
