The Twin Cities Chapter of Women in Sports and Events (WISE TC) announced that Gopher Softball will be receiving the "Women in Sports" Inspiration Award at the Women of Inspiration luncheon on Nov. 14, 2019 at A'BULAE in St. Paul.
The Women of Inspiration Awards recognize women leaders in the business of sports and events who serve as role models and mentors for other women in the Twin Cities community. The award ceremony will be hosted by Paul Allen (Sports Commentator and Voice of the Minnesota Vikings) and feature Courtney Cronin (NFL Nation Reporter – Minnesota Vikings) as the Keynote Speaker. This is the second annual luncheon for the WISE TC Chapter.
The Gophers will be in attendance at this year's luncheon to receive the award after last year's historic run brought an entire state together. Minnesota went 5-0 while hosting the Minneapolis Regional and the first ever Minneapolis Super Regional. The Gophers advanced to the first ever Women's College World Series in program history in the NCAA era.
The Maroon and Gold ended the year No. 8 in both major polls, the highest to end a season in program history, and finished with a No. 7 RPI to set another school record. Minnesota set five out of the top-10 all-time home attendance numbers this past season. The Gophers also broke a weekend attendance record with 3,679 fans across the Northwestern series.
In the classroom, the Gophers set a new program record with a 3.63 team GPA. They had 11 Academic All-Big Ten honorees and eight Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.
