Gophers Victorious on Senior Night

The No. 7 University of Minnesota volleyball team defeated the University of Iowa, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-22), in their last regular season home match of the season. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 15-3 in the Big Ten and 21-5 overall. Iowa drops to 3-15 in league action and 9-20 overall.
Regan Pittman led the Gophers with 12 kills, hitting .348. She also had five blocks and one dig. Stephanie Samedy followed with 10 kills, as well as seven blocks and seven digs. Taylor Morgan offered up nine kills, hitting .438, and six blocks for the Gophers. Adanna Rollins had a team best-best 14 digs, along with eight kills and one block. Alexis Hart added seven kills, one dig and one block. Kylie Miller had 38 assists, three digs and two blocks. CC McGraw offered up 11 digs for the Gophers.
As a team, Minnesota had 46 kills, 42 digs, 11 blocks and hit .259. Iowa had 28 kills, 36 digs, eight blocks and hit .061.
After the match, Minnesota honored its senior class as the Golden Gophers closed out their regular home season schedule tonight. Minnesota recognized seniors Hart, Lauren Litzau, Miller and Morgan after the match.

"I thought we played pretty clean in that first set and we had a nice comeback in the second," head coach Hugh McCutcheon said. "We knew that Iowa would respond after the first set and they did. They made some nice plays and got a little lead. I thought our block and defense was clean at the end of the second set. In the third set, I thought we were pretty good and had some nice execution to get out of there in three."

How They Won the Set:
First Set: Minnesota held the lead from the get-go en route to a 25-14 win. Minnesota established four blocks and hit .455. Pittman added six kills in the opening set and hit .625, while Samedy had four and hit .667.
Second Set: The Gophers erased an 11-15 deficit and came back to win the set, 25-19. Minnesota went on a 7-0 run, six of which came on McGraw's serve rotation as the Gophers went up, 18-15. From there, the Gophers finished off the set on a 7-4 run to win the set.
Third Set: Minnesota solidified the match with a 25-22 set win. Minnesota led from the 2-1 point of the third set and never looked back. The Gophers took a 15-10 lead off a Morgan kill and later a 21-16 off a Pittman kill. The Gophers closed out the match on Samedy/Pittman block, Minnesota's 11th of the match.
