A Carr-eer Night

35 points in one game is an incredible accomplishment; a feat only 22 other players in the history of Gopher Men's Basketball have managed to achieve. Members of the prestigious 35-plus club include Gopher greats such as Mychal Thompson, Quincy Lewis and Andre Hollins. The mark was last reached by Jordan Murphy when he dropped 35 on USC Upstate in 2017; that is, until Marcus Carr came knocking on Sunday night.
The Gophers, coming off a tough loss at Iowa, were playing host to No. 3 Ohio State. Carr, coming off a rough performance himself, needed a "get right" performance, and he delivered. Carr's final stat line read 35 points on 71 percent shooting, three rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. He also hit 8-of-9 from the charity stripe, and shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, tying his career-high with 3 treys. This would've been an incredible performance against any team, but to do so against the No. 3 team in the nation is even more remarkable.
After the game, Coach Pitino commented on Carr, saying "when he is good, he is really, really good, and I think you saw that tonight." Ohio State's head coach Chris Holtmann also had some choice words about Carr's excellence on the court tonight, calling him "tremendous," "outstanding" and "a really difficult match-up for [Ohio State]."
Joining the 35-plus club wasn't the only feat accomplished by Carr Sunday night. He also engraved a spot in Gopher lore for himself with the second highest scoring half in history for the Maroon and Gold with 28 in the second. The only performance ahead of his came from Eric Magdanz in a bout with Wisconsin back in 1962, when he dropped 30 in the second half.
Before tonight, Carr's career high in points was 24, which he managed against Clemson just two weeks prior.
Given that his previous performance also came at Williams Arena, it's possible to think even more blockbuster performances are possible for Carr at the historic Barn.
