Former Gopher great recognized as one of the best to ever play the game

ESPN revealed its All-Time All-American team today as part of its yearlong celebration of 150 years of college football.

Former Gopher great Bronko Nagurksi was named First Team-Defense at defensive tackle. Nagurski, who is universally considered of the greatest college football players to ever lace them up, was a star at Minnesota from 1927 to 1929. He was dominant on defense and offense for the Gophers, as he earned All-American status at tackle and fullback in 1929.

Minnesota went 18-4-2 while Nagurski was a Gopher and won a Big Ten title in 1927.

His No. 72 was retired by the Gophers on Oct. 27, 1979, and he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in its inaugural year in 1951. Nagurski was also an inaugural inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.

The Rainy River, Ontario, native passed away on Jan. 7, 1990.
