For the second time in the last month, Minnesota senior forward Jordan Murphy put together one of the best weeks of any conference player and was recognized as the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday. Murphy last won the award on January 28, and has now done so six times in his career.
Murphy added a pair of double-doubles to his school record this past week in the Gophers victory over Indiana and last-second defeat at Nebraska. In the two games, Murphy averaged 21 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 53.6 percent from the field. Wednesday in Lincoln, Murphy scored 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds along with three assists.
He followed that up with a dominating performance against the Hoosiers Saturday, scoring 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half while also pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds and adding three assists.
Murphy is second in the nation with 18 double-doubles this season and fourth in the country averaging 11.9 rebounds per game, highest in the Big Ten. He is second on the team scoring 15.0 points per game this season and second in blocks (23), while fourth in assists (71) and steals (17).
The Gophers return to action this Thursday at home, hosting nationally-ranked Michigan on Thursday. Tip time is set for 6 p.m., with ESPN televising the game live.
