Val Larson and Tess Keyzers earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors as B1G runners-up.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Four Golden Gopher track & field athletes were honored as the Big Ten Conference handed out its 2019 indoor track & field season awards Tuesday. Val Larson and Tess Keyzers earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors as B1G runners-up while Patty O'Brien and Matthew Rosen were named Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipients.

Larson earned her first All-Big Ten award of her career following her runner-up finish in the 600-meter run at the B1G Championships over the weekend. Larson posted a season-best time of 1:30.12 to finish second in the event final after posting the top preliminary time. A redshirt sophomore from DeForest, Wis., Larson also anchored Minnesota's eighth-place 4x400-meter relay team at the B1G meet.

Meanwhile, Keyzers earned a B1G runner-up finish in the weight throw in her Big Ten debut. She recorded a career-best throw of 21.27m (69-09.50) to finish as weight throw runner-up. Her mark also moved her into fourth among all-time Gophers. A native of Little Chute, Wis., Keyzers also placed 13th in shot put at the B1G meet with a mark of 14.90m (48-10.75).

O'Brien and Rosen took home the Gophers' B1G Sportsmanship Awards. The B1G recognizes one student-athlete from each team, honoring individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the students must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.

A fifth-year senior, O'Brien was honored as the Gopher women's Sportsmanship Award recipient this winter. O'Brien anchored Minnesota's eighth-place distance medley relay and placed 18th in the 5,000m in 16:54.14 at the B1G Championship. She is a four-year Academic All-Big Ten honoree

A native of Bloomington, Minn., Rosen was selected as the men's Sportsmanship Award recipient for the Gophers men's program. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, he finished 15th in the 800 meter prelims at this year's Big Ten indoor meet. Rosen was selected as one of the Gopher Track & Field program's captains prior to the season.
