Three Minnesota swimmers have earned weekly awards from the Big Ten after their outstanding performances in the pool against Northwestern and Purdue this past weekend Feb. 1-2. Senior Chantal Nack picks up her first women's Swimmer of the Week accolade this season while Bowen Becker and Max McHugh claim the Swimmer and Freshman of the week awards on the men's side.

Becker receives this week's award in response to his having won the 50 and 100 Freestyle races with B cut times of 19.83 and 43.24 respectively. He led off the winning 400 Freestyle Relay (2:57.09) with a split time of 43.07 which set a new pool record at Norris Aquatic Center for the 100 Free. He also anchored the 200 Medley Relay to a win with his split of 19.57. This week's honor marks the fourth Swimmer of the Week award for Becker this season.

McHugh earns his seventh Freshman of the Week plaudit after winning both the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 Breaststroke events with B cut times of 53.57 and 1:54.72 respectively. His 1:54.72 set a new pool record at Norris Aquatics Center for the 200 Breast, replacing the previous record of 1:55.58 set by Northwestern's Mike Alexandrov back in 2006. McHugh also swam the breaststroke leg of the winning 200 Medley Relay in 22.99, which was almost two seconds faster than any other breaststroker in the race, and he took fourth in the 200 IM with his time of 1:53.04.

Nack is honored this week due to her taking first place in three of her four individual events as well as anchoring the 800 Freestyle Relay to a win (7:21.68) and leading off the winning 400 Freestyle Relay team (3:23.22). The senior's winning times in two events were also fast enough to qualify as B cuts in the 200 Backstroke (1:56.55) and the 200 Freestyle (1:46.84).

The Gophers next competition will be at the Big Ten Championships, which take place on Feb. 20-23 at Indiana for the women and Feb. 27-Mar. 2 at Iowa for the men. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram and like us on Facebook to stay up to date with the team.
