Hayden, Bacon Earn Spots at NCAAs on First Night of Zone Diving

Minnesota diving punched two tickets to the NCAA Championship on day one of the NCAA Zone D Championship meet Monday in Austin, Texas. The women's NCAA Championship will be held March 20-23, with the men's following from March 27-31 also taking place in Austin.

2018 1-meter NCAA Champion Sarah Bacon will return to the championship meet after today's 3-meter competition in sixth place with a total of 692.10 points. The 2019 NCAA Championships will mark her third straight year of qualification. Kristen Hayden placed fifth with a combined score of 692.75, narrowly outscoring her teammate and securing her spot in Austin.

Also competing in the finals was Mariam Khamis who finished 17th with a score of 619.60

On the men's side, four Gophers moved on to the 1-meter diving finals as Alan Leblang placed 10th (655.10), Nick Yang finished in 12th (602.60), Maxim Royzen ended the day in 15th (567.85) and Duncan Lester came in 17th (553.65).

NCAA Zone D diving continues March 12 as the Gophers look to qualify more divers for the NCAA Championship meet. The women move over to the 1-meter board, while the men dive from the 3-meter springboard.
