Meet the Newcomers: Jason Williamson

Jason Williamson was named 2018 Mr. Football after winning back-to-back state championships in high school.
Minnesota welcomed a school record 14 newcomers in January and they are participating in spring practice. We will introduce some of them to you over the next several weeks. Today, meet Jason Williamson, who had one of the most prolific high school careers the state of Minnesota has ever seen.
NAME: Jason Williamson
HOMETOWN: Owatonna, Minn.
NUMBER: 28
POSITION: Athlete
OVERVIEW: Consensus three-star recruit • No. 3 ranked recruit in Minnesota and No. 79 ranked athlete in the country by 247Sports composite rankings.
HIGH SCHOOL: Enrolled at Minnesota in January 2019 after attending Owatonna Senior High School in Owatonna, Minn. • wore No. 22 for the Huskies and led team to state titles in 2017 and 2018 • named Gatorade Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018 • named Mr. Football in 2018 and was also named the 2018 Associated Press Player of the Year • named First Team All-State in 2017 and 2018 • as a senior, rushed 313 times for 3,012 yards and 46 touchdowns and made 12 catches for 149 yards and one touchdown • on defense, recorded 25 tackles, two interceptions and broke up one pass • returned one kickoff for 17 yards • competed in the Minnesota Football Showcase • as a junior, rushed 311 times for 2,323 yards and 38 touchdowns and made 31 catches for 454 yards and four touchdowns • on defense, recorded 27 tackles, six interceptions, forced two fumbles and broke up seven passes • returned six kickoffs for 245 yards • coached by Jeff Williams.
