GopherSports.com caught up with a few of the gymnasts on the University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team to give fans a chance to get to know the personalities behind the incredible student-athletes who Love The Battle every day as they train at the U, continuing this week with junior Casey Betts.

The Chandler, Ariz. native has competed on the uneven bars and floor exercise during her time as a Gopher gymnast. She boasts career highs of 9.775 on bars and 9.625 on floor, and is a Kinesiology major. Betts has proved resilient in the face of injury in her first few season and continues to work towards returning to the competition floor healthy and ready to score for the Gophers.

Betts is part of a Gophers squad that has been breaking records all season long. She and her teammates have worked to set the school record for highest team score on the uneven bars (49.525) as well as the second-highest in the same season (49.475). They have added top-5 program scores on beam and floor, and have recorded the second-highest overall team score in Minnesota history (197.500),

Betts and the Gophers are working towards breaking even more records as they look to improve upon their success so far this season (15-4 overall record, 9-1 in the B1G) and make a statement in the postseason.

GS: "What made you decide to come to Minnesota over another University?"
CB: "Minnesota felt like a home away from home. I love the campus and the people here."

GS: "What do you miss most about living and training in Arizona?"
CB: "I miss the warm weather and being able to wear shorts 355 days out of the year."

GS: "What is your favorite gymnastics moment, either in your own career or in your time as a gymnastics fan?"
CB: "My favorite moment was competing my first floor and bars routines as a Gopher this year after multiple surgeries kept me out the last 2 years."

GS: "Who is your favorite Gophers athlete and why?"
CB: "Ivy Lu is my favorite athlete because not only is she a great gymnast, but she is super humble and hardworking as well."

GS: "What is your favorite skill that you perform?"
CB: "My favorite skill is a Ray on bars."

GS: "Do you have any rituals or routines you go through before/while you compete?"
CB: "I give myself a positive pep talk before I'm about to compete."

GS: "What has been the hardest part of recovering from an injury, and what have you learned from the experience that has made you a stronger gymnast and a stronger person?"
CB: "The hardest part about recovering from multiple injuries is the starting over process… learning to do the basics such as walking, going down stairs, and running. I learned from this experience that you just have to take it one day at a time and be grateful for the things you can do during this time. Ultimately, this experience has made me work harder and enjoy the sport more because you never know when it could be taken away from you."

GS: "What goals and expectations do you have for yourself for next year?"
CB: "My goal for next year is to be the healthiest I can be to compete a full season."

GS: "What does Loving The Battle mean to you?"
CB: "Loving the Battle means loving the hard days, when you don't feel good or are tired. Knowing that if you give it your all right now it's going to pay off in the future."

GS: "What would you like to do after you graduate? What are your career goals?"
CB: "After I graduate, I plan on going to nursing school and becoming a surgical nurse."

GS: "What is one of your dreams or goals?"
CB: "My goal is to travel around the world after I'm done with nursing school!"

GS: "What is something you're really passionate about outside of gymnastics?"
CB: "I'm passionate about my shoes. I love shoes and have about 60 shoes in my closet right now."

GS: "What are three words that describe you?"
CB: "Easy-going, calm, and realistic."

GS: "What's the most spontaneous thing you've ever done?"
CB: "Sky-diving!"

GS: "What food combination would you ban if you could?"
CB: "Putting ketchup on eggs or hash browns. I think it's disgusting."

GS: "What would you like Gopher fans to know about you that they could never find out just by
watching you compete?"
CB: "Fun fact about me is that I was born in Germany and was a competitive figure skater for 7 years."

The No. 9 Golden Gophers will face off against No. 19 Missouri, No 7 Michigan and No. 67 Centenary College tomorrow night in a quad meet in Columbia, Mo. Competition kicks off at 7:00 p.m. CT.
