Gophers Prepare for Final Regular-Season Competition
3/14/2019 9:15:00 AM | Gymnastics
The Minnesota women's gymnastics team will hit the road for the second straight week as they head to Columbia, Mo to take on Missouri, Michigan and Centenary College in a quad meet hosted by the Tigers. Competition kicks off Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT and will be streamed on the SEC Network +.
The Maroon and Gold moved up one spot in the weekly national poll, securing the No. 9 ranking at the beginning of week 10. The Gophers are also ranked in the top-20 as a team on every event. The team is No. 10 on vault (RQS score of 49.175) and the uneven bars (RQS score of 49.310), No. 11 on the balance beam (RQS score of 49.230) and No. 19 on floor exercise (RQS score of 49.190).
Last week at the Elevate the Stage quad meet featuring Georgia, Arkansas, Michigan State and Minnesota, the Gophers posted a team score of 197.025 to take second place. That score was the second highest team score of the season and the second time Minnesota has earned a score in the 197 range. This feat was due in part to the Gophers recording a season-high team floor score of 49.475, led by Paige Williams' career-high and school-record-tying score of 9.975.
Williams was selected as the Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week of the second consecutive week after her floor performance last weekend. She joined the likes of Gophers greats Lindsay Mable, Carolyn Yernberg, and MaryAnne Kelley as being the highest-scoring Minnesota gymnast on floor exercise. Williams is now ranked No. 17 in the NCAA as an individual on floor.
Her teammates Lexy Ramler and Ivy Lu can also boast of top-20 national individual rankings. Lu clocks in at No. 9 on the uneven bars with an RQS score of 9.925. Ramler holds the No.7 spot in the all-around with an RQS score of 39.575 in addition to her No. 19 ranking on vault (RQS score of 9.885) and her No. 3 ranking on beam (9.940).
The Gophers have previously competed against both Missouri and Michigan during the 2019 season. The two teams count for two of Minnesota's three loses this season, having scored lower than Missouri in the opening meet of the season (hosted by ASU) and having come second to Michigan at the Big Five meet back in February.
