The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team begins the 2019 postseason with a trip to University Park, Pa. for the Big Ten Championships hosted by Penn State. The Gophers will participate in the evening session, which begins at 4:00 p.m. CT., and will begin the meet on bars after first having a bye. The Maroon and Gold will be joined in the evening session by Michigan, Iowa, Nebraska, Penn State and Illinois, and BTN will provide live coverage of both championship sessions.

The No. 11 Golden Gophers enter this weekend's Championships with a 10-1 record against Big Ten teams, the team's only loss being to Michigan at the Big Five meet back in February. When both teams met again last weekend in a quad meet hosted by Mizzou, Minnesota came out on top, handing Michigan their only conference loss. The Gophers are ranked in the top-20 in the NCAA and the top-3 in the conference on every apparatus and are heading into the weekend with high hopes to bring home the program's 6th B1G Title.

"We are all so excited for Big Ten Championships," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "It's always such a phenomenal competition with all these great Big Ten teams. For our athletes we just want to continue our progress. We've been getting better in different areas each and every week. Now we want to put it all together on Saturday night and hopefully have a shot at the Big Ten Title."

Last week at the Mizzou quad meet featuring Michigan, Missouri, Centenary College and  Minnesota, the Gophers posted a team score of 196.900 to take first place. Tiarre Sales stepped up for the team as she posted three scores of 9.900 or higher including a 9.950 on the balance beam to win the event title.

The Henderson, Nev. native was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career as a result of her performance in Columbia, Mo. last weekend. She is the fourth Gopher gymnast to earn weekly honors from the conference as Lexy Ramler has earned Gymnast of the week honors six different times in the 2019 season and Ivy Lu and Paige Williams have been recognized as the Event Specialist of the Week four and two times respectively.

"We've got so many key people that have been instrumental in our team's success this year," continued Hansen. "That's what we are really excited about: we have the potential. We have to let it shine on our night."

In addition to Big Ten accolades, Ramler and Lu can boast of top-20 national individual rankings. Lu clocks in at No. 10 on the uneven bars with an RQS score of 9.925. Ramler holds the No.10 spot in the all-around with an RQS score of 39.575 in addition to her No. 4 ranking on beam (9.940).

As the team looks to claim the Big Ten Title, individual gymnasts such as Ramler, Williams and Lu hope to earn individual titles as well. Lu specifically will defend her 2018 Uneven Bars B1G Title at this weekend's competition. The Gophers squad's rotation order will be bye-bars-beam-bye-floor-vault during the evening session on Saturday as each gymnast looks to add her name to the list of Minnesota champions.
