Touchdown Tuesday: Ibrahim's First of Two TDs at Ohio State
3/5/2019 5:02:00 AM | Football
Minnesota freshman Mohamed Ibrahim scored his first career touchdown at Ohio State.
Throughout the offseason we will take a look at one of Minnesota's touchdowns from the 2018 season in what we are calling Touchdown Tuesday. Today we look at Mohamed Ibrahim's first career touchdown.
Minnesota trailed 3-0 at Ohio State in the first quarter when redshirt freshman Mohamed Ibrahim bulldozed his way into the end zone for a 1-yard score. The touchdown capped an 11-play, 75-yard drive that put Minnesota ahead 7-3.
Ibrahim would finish the game with 23 carries for 157 yards and two touchdowns. His efforts earned him Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors and his 157 rushing yards were the most by a freshman against Ohio State since Penn State's Saquan Barkely rushed for 194 yards in 2015.
Ibrahim rushed for 1,160 yards and nine touchdowns in 2018. His 1,160 yards were the second most ever for a Gopher freshman and came in only 10 games played. He rushed for more than 100 yards in five games last season to become the first Gopher freshman to do so since Laurence Maroney (five 100-yard games) in 2003.

Tyler Johnson's First of Three Against Miami
Green Powers U to Victory
Winfield Dazzles With Punt Return
Ibrahim set a freshman single-game record with 224 yards against Georgia Tech (most by a Gopher in a single game since Maroney ran for 258 yards against Wisconsin in 2005) in the 2018 Quick Lane Bowl and produced the 12th-best rushing game in school history. His 5.74 yards per carry average ranks fifth all-time in school history (minimum 200 carries) and Ibrahim's 1,160 career rushing yards ranks 42nd on Minnesota's career rushing.
