At the close of Friday's competition at the 2019 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, Minnesota's Lexy Ramler went down in program history as the first Gophers gymnast to earn First Team All-America honors on four events in the same year. The St. Michael, Minn. native also became the NCAA Co-Runner-Up on both the Uneven Bars and in the All-Around competition.
"What an incredible experience this year's NCAAs was," said Ramler. "I still don't think I believe it yet, but everything just came together tonight. I don't think I"ve ever experienced emotions like I did after bars. I'm just beyond proud of my performance and proud to be a Golden Gopher."
Ramler rotated with the University of Denver during tonight's evening session, beginning on the beam. She and the Pioneers then progressed to floor before moving to vault and finishing on bars.
"Denver was wonderful to rotate with," continued Ramler. "It was awesome hearing people cheer me on, and I'm so excited for them to compete in the final four!"
"Denver was great," added head coach Jenny Hansen. "They were so welcoming of Lexy and really made her feel at home."
The North Central Region Gymnast of the Year finished fifth overall on vault after tying her career-high on the apparatus. She notched a 9.9250 after she stuck the landing on her Yurchenko 1.5. The sophomore tied for second in the nation on both the Uneven Bars (9.9375) and in the All-Around competition (39.6625), sharing the title of Runner-Up with Oklahoma's Maggie Nichols and UCLA's Kyla Ross respectively. Ramler also finished fourth in the country on balance beam with her score of 9.9125, and 20th in the NCAA on floor exercise with her mark of 9.8875.
"Lexy was just amazing tonight," said Hansen. "She was confident, aggressive and really enjoyed the moment. Lexy has enjoyed one of the most incredible years in Gopher history. She sets a wonderful example in everything she does in and out of the gym and we couldn't be more proud of her success this season!"
Comparing tonight's scores to her marks from the 2018 national championships, Ramler improved on every single event and bested her all-around score by over three tenths. Her all-around (39.6625) and bars (9.9375) marks are the highest scores at NCAA Championships of any Gophers gymnast in program history, and her beam score (9.9125) matches that of Hanna Nordquist from 2016.
