Felix Leads Gophers on Heptathlon Day One

Minnesota's heptathletes competed on day one of the Jim Click Shootout heptathlon on Thursday.
TUCSON, Ariz. -- The University of Minnesota women began the three-day Jim Click Shootout hosted by the University of Arizona with day one of the heptathlon Thursday at Arizona's Roy P. Drachman Stadium. Through the first four events of the heptathlon, Monique Felix leads the Maroon & Gold in fifth overall with 3,147 points. Allison Gerads is in 10th place with 3,015 points while Hannah Arason is 14th with 2,962 points.
After starting the heptathlon with a seventh-place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.63 seconds) and tied for seventh in high jump (1.63m, 5-04.25), Felix recorded career-best marks in shot put (11.31m, 37-01.25) and the 200m (25.19 seconds) to end day one of the meet in fifth place of 15 athletes in Group A of the heptathlon.
Gerads' best finish of the day was a career-best throw of 12.30m (40-04.25) to place second in shot put. She also ran a career-best 25.42 seconds in the 200m, good for eighth place, and recorded a PR in the 100m hurdles at 15.17 seconds.
Arason recorded career-best marks in three of four events so far; her best event was high jump, where she tied for third with a career-best mark of 1.66m (5-05.25). She also recorded PRs in the 100m hurdles (15.01 seconds) and shot put (10.77m, 35-04.00).
The heptathlon concludes on Friday before a full day of competition on Saturday as the Jim Click Shootout continues this weekend.
