Kieran McKeag, Temi Ogunrinde, and Megan Hasz led the Gophers on day one at the NCAA West Prelim.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Kieran McKeag, Temi Ogunrinde, and Megan Hasz led the Gophers on day one at the NCAA West Prelim as the Maroon & Gold secured two NCAA Championship berths in the hammer throw and one in the women's 10,000-meter run on the first day of competition at Sacramento State University's Hornet Stadium on Thursday.

Women's Day One Highlights

Ogunrinde landed her third-career NCAA Championship berth while M. Hasz secured her first appearance at the national meet to lead the Gopher women on day one at the NCAA West Prelim. Ogunrinde recorded a runner-up finish in hammer throw to advance to the NCAA finals with a throw of 64.46 meters (211-06 ft.) while M. Hasz finished 11th in the 10,000-meter run in 33:52.47 to advance to the final.

Rachel Schow and Amira Young each moved one step closer to the NCAA Championships in advancing past the first round in their respective events as well. Schow clocked a 400-meter hurdles time of 58.31 seconds to finish ninth in the first round and move on to Saturday's quarterfinal while Young posted the 11th-best time in the 100-meter dash to move on to Friday's quarterfinal.

In her NCAA West Preliminary debut, Ryan Crotty narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA Championship with a 14th-place finish in javelin. She won the first of three flights with a career-best mark of 48.01 meters (157-06 ft.) before finishing two spots shy of advancing.

Other day one action for the Gopher women saw Ashley Ramacher tie for 18th in high jump (1.70m, 5-07.00 ft.) and Erin Huls place 23rd in the 400-meter hurdles. Hannah Morris (25th in long jump), Patty O'Brien (36th in 10,000-meter run), and Anastasia Korzenowski (47th in 1,500-meter run) made their NCAA West Prelim debuts as well.

Men's Day One Highlights

McKeag became the first Gopher to punch a ticket for next month's national championships with his seventh-place showing in the men's hammer throw to open the weekend for the Maroon & Gold. The redshirt sophomore cleared 66.20 meters (217-02 ft.) on his second attempt of the day to lock up his second trip to the NCAA championships after finishing 21st at last year's meet to earn All-America Honorable Mention accolades.

While McKeag moved on to next month's national meet, Jon Nerdal and Connor Rousemiller concluded their seasons on Thursday in the men's hammer throw. Nerdal posted a 19th-place showing at 63.02 meters (206-09 ft.) while Rousemiller finished 38th at 58.03 meters (190-04 ft.).

Additionally, four more Minnesota men's competitors saw their seasons come to an end on Thursday.
