U Now Accepting Applications for Fan Advisory Board

5/31/2019 1:08:00 PM | Athletics

The application window to be on the Fan Advisory Board ends on Thursday, June 27

Gopher Athletics successfully launched its first-ever Fan Advisory Board in 2017 and now the department is looking for passionate Gopher fans to join the Board for its third year. The only requirement needed to apply is a desire to see Gopher Athletics become a stronger department.

During the past two years, the group has met quarterly in different Gopher venues to talk about everything from parking and concessions, to social media engagement and media coverage, to completely new ideas for the department to improve how it invests in Gopher fans. The expectations for the Board's third year is to build on that momentum, continue providing new ideas and review existing programs for Gopher Athletics.

If you or someone you know is interested in joining the Fan Advisory Board, here are the basics:

● Applications are now open! Click here to apply or visit https://z.umn.edu/FAB1920
● The application window ends on Thursday, June 27.
● Those selected to serve on the Fan Advisory Board will be notified by the end of July.
● Board members serve either one or two-year terms.
● Board members are expected to attend at least four quarterly meetings.
● The first meeting for this year's Fan Advisory Board will be held in August (exact date TBD).
● Board meetings are held on weeknights and typically last about three hours. Each meeting typically includes a guest speaker from Gopher Athletics, time spent working on Board business, and then a tour or behind-the-scenes experience with the athletics department.

The launch of the Fan Advisory Board two years ago was part of a more comprehensive and intentional fan engagement effort by Gopher Athletics, work that included the successful launch of the Gopher Loyalty Program (a one-of-a-kind season ticket holder and donor rewards program) and the continuation of outreach programs including season ticket holder surveys and individual game experience surveys. All of this work was done to give fans a greater voice in their experiences with Gopher Athletics. More information about these initiatives, including the Fan Advisory Board, is available here
