After one of the greatest careers in the history of the University of Minnesota, recent graduate Jordan Murphy will not have to travel far for the next step of his professional career. The forward has committed to join the Minnesota Timberwolves heading into NBA summer league play.
One of the most accomplished players in school history, Murphy led the Big Ten in rebounding with 11.0 boards per game, ranking seventh nationally, and was second in the country and conference leader with 21 double-doubles. Murphy was second on the Gophers scoring 14.4 points per game including 24 games with 10 or more points this season and five 20-plus scoring efforts. He started every game this season and was second on the team in field goal shooting (48.7 percent) and blocks (29) while ranking third in assists (93).
Murphy, who was an All-Big Ten first team selection by the media and second team by the coaches, also earned All-District honors from the NABC and USBWA and was an All-Big Ten second team selection by the Associated Press.
Murphy is the Gophers' second all-time leading scorer with 1,802 career points, and is the school's leading rebounder with 1,307 boards, second all-time in Big Ten history. His 67 career double-doubles is also a school record and second in Big Ten history.
