MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota redshirt senior Kiley Sabin earned a place on the Google Cloud Academic All-America Third Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), honored for her achievements in track & field and in classroom, the organization announced Thursday.
Sabin picked up her second Academic All-America nod of her career after also earning the distinction a year ago. She was one of 11 two-time award recipients among the women's track & field and cross country honorees this season.
The University of Minnesota earned eight Academic All-America accolades during the 2018-19 academic year with Sabin joining previous honorees April Bockin (women's soccer), Payton Jordahl (football), Gary Moore (football), Sam Renner (football), Justin Karstadt (men's gymnastics), Chantal Nack (women's swimming & diving), and Nicole Schammel (women's hockey).
Sabin wrapped up her Gophers career this spring as a three-time All-American and two-time All-Big Ten honoree in shot put. She was a four-time NCAA Championships qualifier with three indoor appearances and one outdoor championship berth, highlighted by a fifth-place finish in shot put at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships. Sabin improved on her own Minnesota program record in shot put with a career-best throw of 17.47m (57-03.75) during the 2019 indoor season and recorded a season-best throw of 16.55m (54-03.75) during the outdoor campaign. She also improved on her career best in discus with a mark of 54.23m (177-11) to end her career ranked eighth among all-time Gophers.
A three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Team and Academic All-Big Ten honoree in addition to her Academic All-America accolades, Sabin completed her undergraduate degree in Human Physiology this spring.
