MINNEAPOLIS -- Gophers alumna Agnes Esser won the Canadian national title in discus at the Canadian Track & Field Championships held at the Claude-Robillard Sport Facility in Montreal, Quebec over the weekend.

Earlier this summer, Esser recorded a career-best mark of 58.92 meters (193-03 ft.). The McBride, British Columbia native wrapped up her Gopher career in 2018 and still holds Minnesota's program record in the discus at 57.98 meters (190-03 ft.). She was a three-time All-American and earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors in the weight throw in 2017. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Esser graduated with a degree in physiology.

Fellow Gophers alumna Barbora Spotakova, a three-time world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, won her 13th title in the javelin at the Czech Championships with a mark of 63.14 meters (207-02 ft.) over the weekend as well. Spotakova competed for the Maroon & Gold in 2001-02 and earned an All-America nod in the javelin. She still ranks fifth in Gophers' program history in javelin at 53.86 meters (176-08 ft.).
