Seven Gophers Set for 2019 USA-Canada Series

The U.S. and Canada face off in an annual three-game series in Lake Placid, N.Y., this week.
MINNEAPOLIS – Seven Golden Gopher women's hockey representatives are among those selected to participate in the Under-22 Series between the United States and Canada in Lake Placid, N.Y., this week. Six Gophers will represent the Red, White, and Blue in Emily Brown, Taylor Heise, Patti Marshall, Taylor Wente, Madeline Wethington, and Grace Zumwinkle while Amy Potomak skates for Canada's National Women's Development Team.

Along with the seven Gophers set to participate in the three-game series, Gophers associate head coach Joel Johnson will serve as head coach of the U.S. Under-22 Women's Select Team alongside assistant coaches Courtney Kennedy, Minnesota alumna and associate head coach at Boston College, and Katie Lachapelle, associate head coach at the College of the Holy Cross.

The U.S. Under-22 Women's Select Team roster has Maroon & Gold representatives making up three of eight defense and three of 12 forwards. The team was chosen following the conclusion of the USA Hockey Women's National Festival on Saturday.

"This past week has been really great," Johnson said. "Our coaching staff and evaluation staff had a lot of tough decisions, but we've picked a group that we feel is going to lead us to success."

Meanwhile, Potomak was named to Canada's National Women's Development Team after the BFL National Women's Development Team Selection Camp during the Team Canada Summer Showcase, which involved on-ice and off-ice training, classroom sessions, and fitness testing. Potomak is one of 13 forwards on the 23-player squad.

The U-22 Series has three games scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 14, Thursday, Aug. 15, and Saturday, Aug. 17 at the 1980 Rink in Lake Placid, N.Y. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. CT each day. All games will be streamed live at HockeyTV.com
