Second Annual Countdown to Puck Drop Event on Sept. 22

Join the Gopher men's and women's hockey teams for a free season kick-off event at Ridder Arena and 3M Arena at Mariucci.
MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota is pleased to host its second annual Countdown to Puck Drop fan event on Sunday, Sept. 22 as the Gopher men's and women's hockey programs head into the 2019-20 campaign.
The kickoff event, hosted at 3M Arena at Mariucci and Ridder Arena, is free to all fans and begins with men's hockey fan engagement at 1 p.m. CT. The women's team hosts the Minnesota Whitecaps at Ridder Arena in a free exhibition game at 2 p.m. with autographs to follow. The entire event is FREE and open to the public.
At 3M Arena at Mariucci from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., fans can enjoy men's hockey locker room tours, open skate, autographs, games for kids, face painting, a photo booth, inflatables, an equipment try-on station, and more.
The Gopher women's hockey team takes on the NWHL's defending Isobel Cup champion Minnesota Whitecaps at 2 p.m. Autographs on the concourse will follow the game, and fans are invited to check out the Julianne Bye Cup, which Minnesota won as WCHA regular season champions in 2018-19.
Fans interested in attending the Countdown to Puck Drop event are directed to park in Lot 37 and enter 3M Arena at Mariucci through the East entrance (facing TCF Bank Stadium).
The 99th season of Gopher men's hockey will see Coach Bob Motzko lead the Maroon & Gold through one of the most exciting home schedules in program history as Minnesota is slated to host nonconference opponents North Dakota, Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State, Bemidji State, and Niagara as well as the full field of Big Ten Conference opponents in Michigan, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Penn State.
The Gopher women's hockey team opens its 23rd season with a pair of exhibition games against the Toronto Aeros (Sept. 21) and the Minnesota Whitecaps (Sept. 22) followed by a 33-game regular-season campaign as the team is in search of an NCAA Women's Frozen Four berth and the program's eighth national title. The Gophers officially open the season by hosting Colgate (Sept. 27-28), and the team's non-conference slate also includes a road trip to Robert Morris (Oct. 11-12), meetings with Boston College (Nov. 29) and Harvard (Nov. 30) in Nashville, Tenn., the 2019 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Game against Minnesota State (Dec. 7), and a home series with Yale (Jan. 4-5).
