University of Minnesota volleyball head coach Hugh McCutcheon has announced the addition of Tamara Dolonga (Varazdin, Croatia) to the 2019 roster. She is set to compete this fall with the team.
"We're excited to add Tamara to the Gopher Volleyball program," McCutcheon said. "She's a great addition to our program."
Dolonga, a 5-foot, 8-inch setter played for Kitro Varazdin Club Team in the Croatian Volleyball National 1B League Club Team. With Kitro, Dolonga helped her team win gold at the international Sarajevo tournament in 2017 and 2018, Ljublijana in 2018, and Baranja in 2016. She was also named the tournament's better setter at all three events and was also named the Most Valuable Player at the 2018 Sarajevo tournament. Dolonga was also a part of the Kitro Varazdin team that won the league title in 2018 and placed third in 2017. With her high school team, Prva gimnazija Varazdin, Dolonga guided her team to a state championship in 2014-15 and 2017-18, and a bronze in the national final in 2017-18. Also an experienced beach player, Dolonga was a member of Croatia's Beach Volleyball U20 National Team in 2017 and the Middle European Volleyball Zonal Association Championship and European Beach Volleyball Championship in 2018.
"I wanted a program that would push me forward in the area of personal growth and become a better person in all facets of life," Dolonga said. "Minnesota will be able to help me in this and I'm excited to attend the university."
Tamara is the daughter of Sanja and Ivica Dolonga and is interested in pursuing a chemical engineering degree.
