Gophers Hold Grand Opening for Robert K. Eddy Athletic Performance Center

The University of Minnesota volleyball program held a grand opening of the Robert K. Eddy Athletic Performance Center, Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019. Seeing the newly renovated space for the first time, the Gophers and some of their biggest supporters walked through the new space for the first time today.Â
KFAN's Justin Gaard emceed the event where he introduced Director of Athletics Mark Coyle, followed by head coach Hugh McCutcheon and senior redshirt middle blocker Taylor Morgan. After showcasinig the need for this facility and thanking all that made this renovation possible, the team provided a special thank you message for everyone's generous support. All attendees walked through the new facility after the program and stayed to watch practice from the new club room seating area.Â
The renovated space on the lower level provides student-athletes direct access from the competition court to strength training, athletic medicine, a nutrition station and hydrotherapy pools. Their own strength and conditioning area also connects directly to the player lounge, team room, and locker room, all adjacent to the court.Â
With a lead commitment from Robert K. Eddy as well as contributions from dozens of other benefactors, the project went from dream to reality in just under a year. The Robert K. Eddy Athletic Performance Center was a privately funded $4 million project. The total Maturi Pavilion upgrades, including the addition of air conditioning, were $5.1 million.
The new open club room features seats overlooking the competition court as well as a coaches' meeting room, locker and office space. A very limited amount of seats are still available for the club room. Individuals interested in purchasing these seats should contact Golden Gopher Fund at ggf@unm.edu or by calling 612-626-4653.Â
