Gopher Summer Update: Cammy Frei

8/5/2019 4:06:00 PM | Tennis

Cammy Frei has had a busy summer. As a junior, Frei posted 11 wins this year, including 10 in dual action and three in the Big Ten. She saw a majority of play out of the No. 4 singles position as well as playing out of the top doubles combination with Caitlyn Merzbacher throughout the regular season. The industrial and systems engineering major is currently interning at with Stratasys. Take a look at what Frei's been up to in this recent summer update.

Looking back at the 2018-19 season, what were some of your favorite moments from the past year?
CF:  Overall, my favorite moments from the past year were traveling with the team, but if I had to pick one moment I would say the ITA Kick-Off. It was a great opportunity to play against some of the top teams and I'm looking forward to having the opportunity again this year!

Since the semester wrapped up, tell us what you've been up to this summer?
CF:  I've been in Minnesota for most of the summer so I've been able to train, which is nice. I also have an internship this summer as a consulting analyst for Blueprint which is a 3D printing consultancy within Stratasys. I've really enjoyed my internship and have seen a glimpse of what the business world will be like after graduating. As the summer wraps up I'm heading back to Chicago to spend some time at home and then I'm back in Minnesota for my senior year!

You're an industrial and systems engineering major. What does that all entail and how are you able to balance that major with being a student-athlete?
CF: An industrial engineering major typically focuses on designing, planning, managing, and optimizing large scale and complex systems in a variety of fields. Unlike other engineering degrees, it incorporates a business aspect which is what drew me to this major. At times it can be challenging to balance the academic and athletic workload, but there's always a way. For me, the most important thing is managing my time, prioritizing my workload, and staying organized.

What would you like to do when you're done with your college career? (please include either finishing your major or graduating, continuing education, finding a job, etc.
CF:  After graduating, I would love to take some time to travel and see a couple places on my bucket list. After that, I hope to start a full-time job either in consulting or an industrial engineering type role.

You'll be a senior next year, what would you like to accomplish in your final year with the Gophers?
CF: I'd love to see the team make it to the NCAA tournament since we are getting closer each year. I'd also love to see another year with a great home record because it's a great feeling to know that the team plays some of our best tennis at home.
