FLORENCE, Italy - In the second game of the Minnesota men's basketball team's tour of Italy, the Gophers raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 108-68 win over Tuscan Select Thursday evening.
Moving to 2-0 on the trip, the Gophers saw four double-digit scorers as 12 players saw the court, providing valuable playing time across the roster. Freshmen Isaiah Ihnen and Tre' Williams led the scoring effort with 19 points each, while sophomores Marcus Carr added 12 and Jarvis Omersa scored 11 points. Each of the dozen Gophers to enter the game scored at least four points each.
"The best part was we got to play a lot of the young guys and rest some of the guys who are going to play a lot of minutes," said head coach Richard Pitino. "A lot of those guys haven't played well together. I thought it as a good confidence builder for Isaiah, since he hasn't played with our guys for a while. So that will hopefully help them build confidence. Play those young guys and see them get a lot of reps."
From the team side, the Gophers shot better than 52 percent from the field (42-80) and sank 13 3-pointers. Defensively, the Maroon and Gold forced 28 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 51-37, including Williams's game high eight boards.
The Gophers make their final stop on the week-long tour Friday, heading to Como where they will face Como Select on Saturday evening before heading home to the Twin Cities Sunday.
