Gophers Sweep No. 10 Ducks To Open Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge

The No. 8 University of Minnesota volleyball team swept No. 10 Oregon, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19, to kick off the Big Ten/Pac 12 Challenge, tonight in University Park, Pa. With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 3-2 overall this season, as Oregon drops to 2-2.
Stephanie Samedy and Alexis Hart paced the Gophers offensively tonight. Samedy earned her third fourth double-double of the season when she had 14 kills and 11 digs in a team-best 37 attempts. Hart hit .346 when she had 12 kills in 26 attempts and just three errors. Regan Pittman added seven kills (hit .400) and added a team-best seven blocks. Adanna Rollins had six kills, 12 digs and three blocks. Kylie Miller added 38 assists, an ace and a block, while CC McGraw posted 10 digs.
As a team, Minnesota hit .233 to Oregon's .117. The Gophers also outblocked the Ducks, 9-5, and held a 55-45 dig advantage.
How they won:
Set 1: Off Kylie Miller's serve rotation, the Gophers were down, 12-13 and rattled off a 7-0 run en route to the set win. Minnesota took the lead for good at 14-13 and won the set, 25-23.
Set 2: Tied at 11-11, Minnesota used kills by Samedy and Rollins and a solo block by Pittman to take the lead for good at 14-11.
Set 3: Minnesota opened with a 14-6 lead and later held a 10-point lead at 18-8, which paced the 25-19 set win. Oregon fought off seven Minnesota match points, but the Gophers closed out the win off an Oregon service error.
Notable
Minnesota is now 4-4 all-time against the Oregon Ducks, after it fell twice last year. The Gophers also defeated Oregon at Penn State in 2011 when both teams were a part of the AVCA Showcase.

"We're happy with the win of course, but I think there are some things that we could learn from tonight," head coach Hugh McCutcheon said. "That's probably the best way to have it where you can get the win and get lessons learned. I thought there were lots of good things, including our serving and with hit with good range. Now it's onto the next one and we're excited to play Stanford."
