Take a look at the Gophers' goaltenders for the 2019-20 season.

MINNEAPOLIS – The Golden Gopher women's hockey team returns 18 players from its 2018-19 team and adds four newcomers to make up the program's 2019-20 roster. The team is under the direction of head coach Brad Frost, who returns for his 13th season at the helm of the Maroon & Gold. Break down the Gophers' roster by position with a look at the goaltenders.

Who's Back?
Senior Sydney Scobee and junior Alex Gulstene return between the pipes for the Maroon & Gold after combining for a .922 save percentage and a 1.76 goals against average last season with 39 wins and 5 shutouts. Scobee enters her senior year after posting career-best numbers as a junior with a .927 save percentage and a 1.76 goals against average. Meanwhile, Gulstene ranked second in the nation with .870 winning percentage at 20-3-0 on the year in 2018-19.

Who's New?
Freshmen Makayla Pahl and Olivia King join the Maroon & Gold this season. Pahl was a finalist for the 2019 Let's Play Hockey Senior Goalie of the Year award. She recorded a .940 save percentage and a 2.56 goals against average while appearing in 20 games before suffering a season-ending injury with the Rochester Mayo girls' hockey team in 2018-19 after playing boys' hockey as a junior. Meanwhile, King led Brainerd High School to a 25-5-1 overall record and state runner-up finish at the 2019 Minnesota Class AA State Tournament as a senior last season.

Frost on the Gopher Goaltenders:
"We've got great depth at the goaltending position. Certainly with two returners, they know what it's like to play in big games, but we've got some freshmen who are going to get some opportunities throughout the year as well. I'm excited to watch them compete with each other – not necessarily against each other, but with each other – to support each other and see who emerges as the year goes on."

Notable: Numbers Game
Olivia King is just the third Gopher in program history to wear No. 1 for the Maroon & Gold, joining fellow goaltenders Brenda Reinen (2001-02 to 2004-05) and Jenny Lura (2007-08 to 2010-11). Likewise, Pahl is the third Gopher to wear No. 33, joining Brittony Chartier (2005-06 to 2006-07) and Alyssa Grogan (2010-11 to 2011-12).
