Minnesota student-athletes combined to average a 3.33 GPA in the fall semester
University of Minnesota student-athletes continue to excel at historic levels in the classroom, according to information released today by the John & Nancy Lindahl Academic Center.
Minnesota student-athletes combined to average a school-record 3.33 GPA for the recent fall semester and every sport was at 3.10 or above.
In addition, the cumulative GPA for all Minnesota student-athletes is a school-record 3.28. This is the fourth-straight semester that the cumulative GPA has increased and every program is above a 3.00 for the first time ever.
Fifteen programs saw an increase in their cumulative GPA and those programs were: women's basketball, women's golf, women's track and field, rowing, softball, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, volleyball, baseball, men's basketball, men's cross country, football, men's track and field, men's swimming and diving and men's tennis. Minnesota's soccer team maintained its same cumulative GPA from the previous term.
"Our campus partners, athletic administration, coaches and Lindahl Academic Center staff have built a strong culture of academic success," said Lindahl Academic Center Director JT Bruett. "However, this most recent accomplishment would not be possible if our student-athletes were not willing to put in the work and reach their full potential. I am continually impressed at their dedication to succeed in the classroom as well as in their sport."
Minnesota's record performance in the classroom also coincides with the recent opening of the world-class Athletes Village. The transcendent facility opened in January 2018 and directly benefits every student-athlete on campus, as it provides ample space for student-athletes to study, train and eat.
Athletes Village also houses the John & Nancy Lindahl Academic Center, which has been a revelation for Gopher student-athletes. The academic center is three-times larger than the previous space and supports everything from individual study to large group consultation. It meets every academic need of our Minnesota student-athletes.
