Oturu Repeats as Big Ten Player of the Week

Another career performance led to another Big Ten Player of the Week honor for Minnesota sophomore center Daniel Oturu, as the conference announced Monday that he is the co-recipient of the weekly award.
Oturu, who won the award on Dec. 30 after his previous career-high scoring output, shared the award with Purdue's Trevion Williams.
The Woodbury, Minn., native poured in 30 points on Sunday to help lead the Gophers past 19th-ranked Michigan, 75-67, at Williams Arena. He finished the game 13-of-18 from the field (72.2 percent) while adding seven rebounds and a steal in 35 minutes of play. He did so despite suffering an injury scare early in the second half which forced him to miss several minutes before returning to close out the game.
On Thursday at No. 8 Michigan State, Oturu scored his 10th double-double of the season with a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, also adding two blocks, one assist and one steal.
Oturu has now scored 20 or more points nine times this year after never doing so during his freshman campaign. He leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth in the country with 11.9 rebounds per game, while ranking second in the conference and 15th nationally with 2.9 blocks per contest. Oturu's 10 double-doubles is tied for the Big Ten lead and fifth nationally, while his 62.6 percent field goal shooting is 13th in the country and second in the conference. Finally, his 19.9 points per game average is second in the Big Ten.
Oturu's award is the third for the Gophers this season, after he did it the week following Gabe Kalscheur (Dec. 23).
The Gophers return to action at home on Wednesday, hosting Penn State at 8:00 p.m.
