Grimm Named Minnesota Sportscaster of the Year

1/14/2020 9:57:00 AM | Football, Athletics, Men's Basketball

The venerable Voice of the Gophers Mike Grimm was named the 2019 Minnesota Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.

This is the fifth such honor for Grimm, who was also recognized in 2013, 2010 and 2009. The Manchester, Iowa, native was also named the Iowa Sportscaster of the Year in 1999.

Grimm has called Gopher men's basketball for 14 years and Gopher football for nine, but his affiliation with the university extends well beyond that. He was also the Minnesota football pre and post-game host for five years and has provided the popular Golden Gopher Daily Update for 14 years.

Grimm has hosted hundreds of Minnesota coaches shows the past 14 years and called the first baseball game ever at Target Field in 2010 when the Golden Gophers hosted Louisiana Tech.

Grimm, who played baseball at Luther College, has also come out of the bullpen for the Gophers. He called the baseball team's 2018 super regional at Oregon State and provided play-by-play coverage of Minnesota's historic run to the Women's College World Series in softball in 2019.

Grimm is also the sports director at the Minnesota News Network, which delivers daily statewide sportscasts and content.
