The Minnesota men's basketball team had its strongest semester academically in program history, as the team set new records for grade point average last fall.

This past term, the team combined for program-bests with a 3.14 semester grade point average, along with a 3.05 cumulative grade point average. It was the first time in program history that the Gophers achieved a cumulative GPA above 3.0.

Additionally, nine members of the Gopher men's basketball team turned in GPAs above a 3.0.

"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes for the hard work they do in the classroom as well as on the court, and impressed by their achievements this past semester," said head coach Richard Pitino. "Their commitment to their course work as well as basketball is shown by setting school records and I have no doubt they'll continue to set new standards academically."

The Gophers return to action Thursday, traveling to eighth-ranked Michigan State for an 8 p.m. CT tilt from Breslin Center.
