Gopher Duo Earns WCHA Honors

Sarah Potomak and Madeline Wethington have been named WCHA Players of the Week.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior Sarah Potomak and freshman Madeline Wethington have been honored by the WCHA for their play in the Gophers' non-conference sweep over Yale. Potomak has been named the WCHA Forward of the Week after a four-point weekend and Wethington is this week's WCHA Rookie of the Week after Minnesota won 6-3 and 4-1 over the Bulldogs.
Potomak earned her first WCHA weekly award of the season and her eighth of her career after leading the WCHA with four points and three assists with back-to-back two-point games over the weekend. The Aldergrove, British Columbia native scored the first goal of the game and picked up an assist on Minnesota's sixth goal in the team's 6-3 win in game one before recording assists on the Gophers' third and fourth goals in a 4-1 win in game two. With her four-point weekend, Potomak moved her career total to 162 career points (60g-102a) as a Gopher, now tied for 12th in program history with Laura Slominski (65g-97a). She leads Minnesota with 10 multi-point games on the year.Â
Wethington received her first WCHA weekly award of her career after leading WCHA rookies with a plus-three plus/minus rating over the weekend. She was one of five WCHA rookies to log one point on the weekend, recording her seventh assist of the season in game one.Â
