Pittman Closes Out Red-Shirt Junior Year with Degree
1/8/2020 10:20:00 AM | Volleyball
Red-shirt junior Regan Pittman closed out a memorable 2019 season. In a span of a week, the 6-foot, 5-inch middle blocker helped her team advance to the NCAA Final Four, obtained a bachelor's degree in recreation administration and became an AVCA First Team All-American. It was her second All-America honor of her career, her first as a first team selection.
Pittman has continued her growth as a volleyball player every year. As a red-shirt junior, Pittman competed in all 118 sets this past season. She led the team with a .355 hitting efficiency as she averaged 2.17 kills per set and 256 kills. She also led the Gophers in solo blocks (27), block assists (166) and blocks per set (1.27). Her blocks per set ranked second in the Big Ten and 13th nationally. She bettered both her blocks per set and aces from the previous year as she averaged 1.14 bps as a red-shirt sophomore and provided eight aces and 274 kills. Her first year as a starter, Pittman hit .341, averaged 0.96 blocks per set, one ace and 261 kills.
Pittman will look to continue both her athletic and academic career with one more year of eligibility left. The soon-to-be red-shirt senior will work towards a master's degree in youth development leadership. She, along with Airi Miyabe, Stephanie Samedy and Claire Sheehan will return for their senior season in August 2020. Check out how Pittman used both her love for volleyball and outdoors to find a great balance off the court in this Minneapolis Star Tribune article earlier this year.
