Eighteen different players scored for Minnesota, as U averaged 34.1 points per game
The University of Minnesota football team scored 443 points in 13 games last season as it went 11-2. The Gophers won 11 games for the first time since 1904 and posted two AP top 10 wins (Penn State and Auburn) for the first time since 1956.
The location of the games didn't matter to the Gophers, as the offense clicked at home and on the road. Minnesota averaged 33.8 points per game in home games at TCF Bank Stadium and combined to average 34.3 points per games in neutral site and road games.
The 443 points scored by Minnesota were the second most in school history since 1946 and trail only the 2003 team that totaled 503 points. Minnesota averaged 34.1 points per game in 2019, which was third in school history since 1946. The Gophers averaged 38.7 in 2003 and 35.8 in 2005.
Leading the Gophers in scoring this year was receiver Tyler Johnson who recorded 78 points off of a school receiver record 13 touchdowns. Johnson was the first receiver to lead the Gophers in scoring since Ernie Wheelwright did so in 2007 with 56 points. Johnson's 78 points are the most by a non-kicker for the Gophers since running back Gary Russell set a season record with 114 points (19 TDs) in 2005.
Kicker Michael Lantz was second on the team in scoring this season as he registered 71 points (8 field goals, 47 PATs), while receiver Rashod Bateman was third with 66 points.
Minnesota had 18 players score at least one point this year. In comparison, Minnesota had 14 players score at least one point in 2018 and nine in 2017. In 2003 and 2005, the only two years that Minnesota averaged more points per game than 2019, the Gophers had 17 and 15 players score.
