Carr Earns Spot on Naismith Trophy Watch List

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota redshirt junior Marcus Carr has earned himself a spot on the 2021 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Thursday.
Already tabbed as a preseason All-Big Ten Team honoree, Carr is one of 50 players on the Naismith Trophy list, including one of eight from the Big Ten.
An All-Big Ten Third Team selection last year, Carr set school records with 207 assists, including 130 during conference action. He finished the year second in the conference and ninth nationally with 6.7 assists per game, and tied for second with an assist/turnover ratio of 2.5.
The Toronto, Ontario, native led the conference in minutes played, starting every game and averaging nearly 37 minutes of court time per contest to rank ninth nationally. Carr also ranked second on the Gophers, and eighth in the Big Ten, in scoring 15.4 points per game. He had 24 games with double-digit scoring including eight 20-point outings and four double-doubles.
A midseason watch list with 30 players on it is scheduled to be announced in early February. From there, 10 national semifinalists will be released on March 4, while the four finalists will be unveiled on March 16. Players who do not make the preseason watch list will still be eligible to be selected for the midseason list. The 2021 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy will be awarded during the Final Four at the Naismith Awards Brunch on April 4.
