Academic Spotlight: Ellie Husemann

Sophomore middle blocker Ellie Husemann is using this time as an undergraduate student to really explore what she wants to do once her volleyball career is complete.
Although she committed her junior year of high school, Husemann always knew she wanted to be a Golden Gopher. The Eagan, Minn., native used to watch past Gopher greats like Tori Dixon compete at the Pav. Now, instead of being a longtime fan, Husemann is playing for that same Gopher team. As a freshman she played in 23 sets and provided 19 blocks as the Gophers competed in the NCAA Division I Championship.
Along with playing for her home state, Husemann knew the opportunities Minnesota had to offer when selecting a business major. Carlson School of Management offers 10 majors and 13 minors within their program. Although still undecided on what avenue she'd like to take, Husemann is using her underclass opportunity to explore all options the school offers.
Husemann is potentially interested in Human Resources and Industrial Relations. Through her courses at Minnesota, she is interested in being a part of an organization's training and professional development. Just like improving her skills on the volleyball court, her goal is to be a part of a business that expands the knowledge of current and future employees to succeed both in the business world and beyond. Gathering new skills and utilizing them is something Husemann would love to be a part of.
She is also obtaining a Spanish minor where she hopes to use this on a day-to-day basis once her collegiate career is completed. Taking Spanish since middle school, Husemann enjoys learning a new language and having the ability to communicate with others. A goal of her is to utilize that minor where she hopes to one day live in Spain and teach English, or use both her minor and business major to good use. Until then, she'll continue to learn and study both on and off the court as the prepares for her sophomore year.
