Gophers Earn Top-15 Ranking in WCGA Preseason Poll

The Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) released their preseason poll on Thursday morning and have ranked the Gophers at No. 11 in the nation, tallying 834 points.

The Gophers have jumped up three spots after being ranked No.14 in last season's WCGA Preseason Poll. Minnesota is one of eight Big Ten Teams to be ranked in the top 36, with only Michigan coming in ahead of them at No. 5. The No.11 spot is the highest preseason ranking in program history.

The preseason ranking comes after the Gophers had one of the most successful seasons in program history before the 2020 season ended abruptly when the Big Ten and NCAA announced they were ceasing competitions and championships because of COVID-19 public health concerns.

The Gophers finished the shortened 2020 season ranked No. 10 overall in the nation with a 6-3 overall record and 5-0 in the Big Ten. They hit 197+ three times during the season, notched the second-highest team score in program history with a 197.625 and finished the 2020 season with a NQS of 197.410. For the first time in program history, Minnesota was ranked No. 1 nationally on beam for two weeks and set a school record on the event, scoring a 49.700 as a team at the Rutgers quad meet.
