GopherSports: It was the match that everyone was waiting for between yourself and Nick Gwiazdowski, and you came out on top. Talk about your performance overall and how you felt about getting the big win?
Gable: I felt as though my performance was great. I could’ve opened up on offense more in the match, but at the end of the day I did what I said I was going to do, which is win.
GopherSports: Obviously, this isn’t the end-all, be-all for the freestyle season, you are most likely going to have to face the same competition in the Olympic Trials. What’s that mindset like of celebrating this weekend’s win, but also staying focused on Olympic Trials down the road?
Gable: I never celebrate the results of big matches like this. I feel that I was expected to win and kept true to the game plan. This wasn’t my end goal, so celebrations were not necessary for me. Facing the same competition for the Olympic Trials will be challenging as always, but I look forward to those matches again once they come.

GopherSports: Now you’re the top dog at 125kg, and it took less than 24 hours for guys in that weight class to start calling you out. Does that change your mentality at all knowing that guys across the country are focused on how they beat Gable Steveson?
Gable: No, it really doesn’t change my mentality, I embrace challenges. I went to the RTC Cup for one match, I did my job and I came back home. I’ve always felt the pressure of people targeting me, so I stay the course and never get off my game plan. For those that want to wrestle me, I will see them again soon.
GopherSports: Speaking of being the top dog, we have the collegiate season coming up. You’re almost certainly going to be the #1 guy. Do you have any goals or expectations for yourself going into the season?
Gable: Dominate and win. That’s really all there is to it.
