Katie Duong Named to 2020 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship Team

Sophomore midfielder Katie Duong has been named part of the 2020 CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship team roster, U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team head coach Laura Harvey announced on Thursday afternoon.
The United States roster consists of 16 collegiate players and Duong is one of only two players representing the Big Ten.
Duong has attended three National Team camps in the past six months with an August camp in California followed by Florida camps in both December and January. In year's past the Oregon native has also been part of the under-14 and under-15 camps.
At the 2019 Nike International Friendlies she had the honor of wearing the Red, White, and Blue captain's arm band.
Besides the handful of games she missed for the California training camp, Duong appeared in all games for the Gophers and helped lead the offensive attack. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week in the final week of the season and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team at season's end.
Duong led the 2019 Gophers with 38 shots, including 15 on frame, in her 16 games.
The competition is from February 22 through March 8 in the Dominican Republic. America will be joined in Group C by Cuba, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic hosts. The three best teams from each group will advance to a single-elimination tournament.
The new qualifying format means that the top-two finishers from the tournament will earn spots at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup next August in Costa Rica and Panama.
All competitions will be held in Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo and Estadio Panamericano in San Cristobal.
"I'm looking forward to seeing what level we can put out on the field and I'm hoping that throughout the campaign we can show growth as a collective team and see some individuals shine," Harvey said in a statement.
