Coughlin leaves Minnesota ranked third all-time in career sacks

Four University of Minnesota football players – Carter Coughlin, Tyler Johnson, Kamal Martin and Antoine Winfield Jr. – have been invited to participate in the 2020 NFL Combine.

A total of 337 prospects were invited to attend the annual event, which will take place in Indianapolis from Feb. 24 through March 1.

In advance of the annual event, we will take a look at each of the four Gophers invited to participate. We will start with the homegrown talent Coughlin.

The legacy Gopher played in 49 career games and was one of the best to ever wear the Maroon and Gold. He leaves Dinkytown ranked third all-time in sacks (22.5) and fourth all-time in tackles-for-loss (40.0). Coughlin also broke up four passes – all in his senior season – and forced seven fumbles and recovered one. He ended his career with 159 tackles, 107 of which were solo.

Coughlin, who moved from linebacker to rush end prior to his senior year, was named All-Big Ten Second Team in 2019 and 2018 after being named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 2017. He received the team's Defensive Trench Award in 2019 and 2018 and was honored with the team's Carl Eller Award in 2018, which is presented to the team's outstanding defensive player.

The Eden Prairie, Minn., native was also named Academic All-Big Ten in 2019, 2018 and 2017.

The NFL Combine will be broadcast on the NFL Network. A complete broadcast schedule can be found here.
