2/18/2020 11:13:00 AM | Softball
Amber Fiser was named one of 30 candidates for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate softball.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Div. I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Fiser is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District recipient. She is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award Winner for having over a 3.70 GPA. Amber majors in business and marketing education and will graduate with her degree this spring. Off the field, she is also a second degree black belt in Taekwondo. Her instructor credited her for continuing to model the Taekwondo tenants in her collegiate and softball career.
The Van Horne, Iowa native is the active NCAA Div. 1 leader in strikeouts with 737 in her career. She is the season leader with 71 already in the 2020 season. In 2019, Fiser was named a First Team NFCA All-American, was a Honda Cup Award Finalist, and was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. She ranked third in the NCAA in wins, fifth in strikeouts, and 12th in ERA. Her 31 wins on the season tied for second all-time in program history and 346 strikeouts was third all-time.
Fiser's full Senior CLASS Award bio can be found here.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
