Running back totaled 140 yards and one touchdowns in Outback Bowl win
University of Minnesota football coach P.J. Fleck named running back Mohamed Ibrahim the team's Nekton of the Week. Ibrahim is the team's second Nekton of the Week, as the Gophers are now into their off-season workouts. Receiver Chris Autman-Bell earned the honor last week.
Ibrahim, who will be a junior in the fall, has played in 21 career games and has rushed 316 career times for 1,764 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Last season, he made carried the ball 114 times for 604 yards and seven touchdowns, as he shared time in the backfield with Rodney Smith (228 carries) and Shannon Brooks (73 carries). He ended the season with 20 carries for 140 yards and one touchdown in a win against Auburn in the Outback Bowl.
In 2018, Ibrahim was forced into a starring role because of injuries and did not disappoint. He played in 10 games and rushed 202 times for 1,160 yards (second most ever for a Gopher freshman) and nine touchdowns. He rushed for more than 100 yards in five games to become the first Gopher freshman to do so since Laurence Maroney in 2003 and he led the team with 1,205 all-purpose yards (1,160 rushing, 26 receiving and 19 kick return).
Minnesota opens the 2020 season on Sept. 3 at home against Florida Atlantic. Season tickets are on sale now.
